The facility is currently taking bookings for rentals and events for the 2009 season. Contact the renters in the Links tab if you wish to take part in one of their events or schools. We currently have Roadcourse racing for Motorcycles and Cars as well as performance driving and racing schools booked. We also have Drag racing dates booked in addition to the Secret Street program running every Friday night during the season. It looks like there will be several Oval races this season too, as we firm up arrangements with organizers for those events. Discussions with the City over the future of the facility are ongoing but it appears that the administration does not have a strong interest in our sport. Let us hope that Council can see the benefit of a major facility in Calgary. Hopefully these issues will be cleared up before the end of January. In the meantime, it is business as usual for the race track. |

The motion before Council was discussed behind closed doors at this weeks meeting, at the request of the City's Legal Department. The result of the discussion was that the City Council needed a more complete package of information from the City Administration on all aspects of the issue. The Administration is supposed to bring back this information soon. How soon would likely be affected by the City's concept of time . I am hoping this month, but maybe they will take until January, or longer. Race City has had no official notice from anyone yet and this is the just the best information I can gather. I would like to thank all of your who have notified your Aldermen and asked them to support this motion. I think it has already made some difference, Hopefully it will continue to show Council that residents of Calgary use and enjoy this sports facility as much as others, even though we are not publicly funded. More to follow when I get real information... Art MacKenzie |

Aldermen McIver and Connelly have a motion before City Council that will be voted on during the Council meeting on Monday November 3 or Tuesday November 4. The motion basically asks Council to direct the City Administration to honour the existing lease they have with Race City. This would give Race City the opportunity to continue to exist and keep Motorsport active in Calgary. ...if it passes.
I would ask that you, as a user of this facility, email your local alderman for your business or home and ask them to support this motion, and explain the affect of the loss of this facility on your business or life.
The motion does not ask for anything not already granted by the City, and I think our Aldermen need to recognize that their constituents are affected if Race City is forced to close.
This is the website for the Ward offices: http://www.calgary.ca/portal/server.pt/gateway/PTARGS_0_0_771_200_0_43/http%3B/content.calgary.ca/CCA/City+Hall/Municipal+Government/Office+of+the+Aldermen/Ward+Offices/Alderman+by+ward.htm
Thank you for taking the time to do this so that your local alderman gets the message before they vote on Monday.
