Race City Booking Track Rentals
Thursday, 07 January 2010
Race City is now taking bookings for track rentals for the 2010 season.  Please email This e-mail address is being protected from spam bots, you need JavaScript enabled to view it with dates you may require.

We are still negotiating with the City Administration to conclude a viable agreement, so nothing is definite yet.  It is hoped that we will reach an agreement over the next month.  In the interim there are many organizations and sanctioning bodies that must do up their own schedules so we have to lay ours out now.

Enjoy the snow while everyone waits for the new season.  Winter driving can be fun if you develop your skills.

City Council actually did the Right Thing
Friday, 02 October 2009

City Hall has voted to keep Race City around for another five years.  We are cautiously optimistic that the details can be worked out with our landlord, Corporate Properties,  over the next month and then planning for next season can start.

Race City would like to thank the Motorsport Community in general for you advocacy and passion in preserving motorsports in what should be a vibrant city.  Without your vocal and ardent efforts the politicians may not have realized the social and economic benefits that our sport brings to Calgary.

The Aldermen that voted to honour our contract and saw value in this facility are:   Chabot, Colley-Urquhart, Connelly, Hodges, Jones, Mar, McIver, and Stevenson.

The Aldermen who voted against us and did not see significant value in this facility are:   Cecci, Farrell, Fox-Mellway, Hawkesworth, Lowe, and Pincott.  And, of course, the Mayor.

City Council again tries to Do The Right Thing
Monday, 14 September 2009

Alderman McIver has again brought a motion before council to ask the Administration of the City to honour the existing contract with Race City.  They vote on it today or tomorrow and we hope he can rally enough support get the City to do what should have been done two years ago and keep us here for at least another five years.

It seems to us that it's an easy decision to follow a contract that they wrote, signed, and have always implied was valid.  Well, they are politicians so you never know what the motivation would be for not wanting to honour a contract  We certainly have a bias when we look at the issue but it seems simple.

As soon as we know the results of the vote they will be published here.

UPDATE: The motion has been tabled until September 28.  You have another couple weeks to continue to press your Aldermen to support your sport.

UPDATE: Political pressure has stopped the Blue Line racing team from coming down to Calgary on the 25th.  What Calgary politician has enough pull to stop an Edmonton nonprofit society from coming to our facility.  They have raced at our track before.  Maybe the same guy who is vocal about police wearing cowboy hats feels that is a better image than police who try to make the streets safer.  I wonder why he hates motorsport fans?
